AshTouch:
Technology and deployment information
AshTouch is a platform independent Software that has been developed
to exploit the advantages of Internet technologies. These are:
- Single point of maintenance for the Hardware, Software and Data.
Thin Client with no special client software, resulting in low cost of
ownership and zero support needs.
- All user interfaces are web based hence no geographical limit
- Software developed in JAVA, hence deployable and scalable to any server
platform.
- Extensive optimization resulting in very low bandwidth use.
- The software will function in a LAN environment as an Intranet application
on the LAN
- Equally easy to deploy and as an Extranet application in a WAN environment
Development Methodology:
The software has been developed using the MVC design methodology.
Modeling is done in HTML prototypes. View aspect of the code is written
in JSP. The control aspects and the business rules are in the Java
middle ware which resides in either Java Servelets or in procedures in the
database.
Database:
The software requires Oracle 8i or later as it's RDBMS.
This results in efficient handling of enterprise level volumes and scalability
to any hardware platform.
The deployment can be on multiple servers where the database resides on
a separate physical machine and the software and web server on another
physical machine. This type of deployment allows for scalability and load
distribution.
Deployment information:
The following components are required to deploy the software
:
- A the software resides on a Web Server supporting JSP 1.1 and
JDK 1.3. The server can have either Windows NT, Windows 2000,
Linux or Unix as it's operating system.
- The Database can reside on the same server as the Web Server or on
another server in the same network domain, or on the internet.
- A mail server is integrated with AshTouch for sending emails out of
the system. For inward email from the existing email system will have
to be suitable configured to forward emails to AshTouch's POP3 mailbox.
To receive email as replies to messages sent from AshTouch, the company
wide email system will have to be configured to forward such replies
to AshTouch.
Client Side Software:
On the Client PC, Browsers such as Internet Explorer ( Ver
5.5 and upward ) or Netscape ( 4.75 upward ) are recommended. The software
is optimised for 800x600 screen resolution.
Bandwidth per client required is very low, typically less than 0.5 Kbytes
per second.
